No One Killed Jessica (2011)

Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ is an inspired with the real life murder of Jessica Lal and the strife for justice. Ladies & Gentleman features Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji, it is an intense drama which gives the message of public anger and the role of truth. The focus here does not lie in songs which could add entertainment fun and frolics at the cost of the seriousness of the plot But the callous treatment is the strength of this film, which makes it an edge of the seat stuff from the beginning till the end of the film.

A Wednesday! (2008)

“A Wednesday!” which is directed by Neeraj Pandey is one of the best Indian thriller movies which narrates the tale of an ordinary man who sets out to take law in his hands. Featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher, the movie lets the viewer follow the events of a single day and get more and more anxious about the characters’ fate with each new scene. Lack of songs also have its advantages this time this it raises the tension since the movie is built entirely on the narrative. The film ‘‘A Wednesday!’’ is a perfect example of how a film does not necessarily have to have musical interludes to make it interesting.

Black (2005)

‘Black’ is another drama made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which is poignant drama about a deaf-blind girl and her master. I was quite impressed with the movie that features Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji is very emotional and has no songs that are placed in between the scenes. Lack of so music adds to that focus on the great acting and the powerful and inspiring story, which makes “Black” a memorable film.

Bhoot (2003)

‘Bhoot’ is a typical horror film done by Ram Gopal Varma and this film has the perfect combination for a horror movie: suspense. Considered a cult classic today, this Amitaba Bhattacharya directed film, staring Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar, is another good examples of a Bollywood horror that dared not to dance and sing. The lack of music during the film also contributes to the film’s suspense, as the audience is submerged into the horrors of the film. “Bhoot” is a perfect example of horror how a film can go without graphics, but instead use the plot and mood to scare the audience.

Ittefaq (2017)

The second one is “Ittefaq” directed by Abhay Chopra and is a contemporary ‘inspired from’ a 1969’s film of same name. It is romantic thriller where Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha enacted the main roles, while Akshaye Khanna played the role of a detective, and this is one of those films that till the very end doesn’t allow a viewer to guess who the killer might be. Excluding songs also best suits the film as it enables it keep pace in telling the story and to keep the audiences’ concentration on the mystery. As for the ‘song-and-dance’scene it can be referred that, excluding it the film ‘Ittefaq’ is one of the most tight-knit and certainly interesting films of the genre.
